Joseph M. Bilotta, 69

Joseph M. Bilotta of Stratford, a former Westport resident and veteran broadcaster, died June 1 of pancreatic cancer at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was 69.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, he resided in East Windsor, New Jersey and Westport, before recently moving to Stratford. He spent his summers in Avalon, New Jersey.

He was a graduate of both the University of Pennsylvania and LaSalle College.

He spent more than 40 years at Buckley Broadcasting where he helped build the group’s standing through such stations as WOR-AM in New York and WDRC-AM/FM in Hartford.

Following his 10-year stint as chief operating officer, he became president and CEO in 2011, following the sudden death of company founder Rick Buckley. Bilotta celebrated his 45th anniversary with Buckley Broadcasting in July 2014.

Upon the conclusion of the sale of Buckley Broadcasting’s assets in 2015, Bilotta formed JMB Solutions.

He served as the chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau, a six-year board term with the National Association of Broadcasters, a lifetime board member of the Broadcasters Foundation of America, and a lifetime board member of the New Jersey Broadcasters Association.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, and rooting for his Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially while on the beach.

He cared deeply for his family and friends, and will be fondly remembered by those whom he touched.

In addition to Barbara Jean (Gillen) Bilotta, his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his two sons, Gregory and his wife Robyn, of Fairfield; Nicholas and his wife Sarah, of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; brother Anthony and his wife Patricia; sister Marianne and husband Jimmy; five grandchildren, Cole (14), Sophia (12), Jack (12), Max (10), Sam (9); and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Anna Perry Bilotta, and nephew, Christian Bilotta.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield. Funeral services will take place on Thursday , June 7 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. in Saint Thomas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield. His burial will be private.
