Greta Ackerman, a former Westport resident and wife of Richard Ackerman, died Nov. 20. She was 87.

Born July 24, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Murray R. and Marcella Goldsmith Schwerens. She grew up in Cedarhurst, and Hewlett, Long Island, attending Woodmere High School where she was a varsity cheerleader.
After high school, she attended Albright College.
Greta and Richard, formerly of Westport for over 40 years, enjoyed many years of music, theater, dance, exercising, and spending time on Compo Beach.
She worked as a nursery school teacher in Norwalk and at the front desk of the Westport News for many years.
Above all, she cherished her time spent with her family and friends, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband Richard of 64 years, she is survived by her two daughters, Alison Healy and her husband Tim of Shelton, and Eve Healy and her husband Michael of Fairfield; her two grandsons, Michael and Robert Healy; and her special nephew and niece, Richard and Cathy Colman. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Joan Colman Hoytt.
All funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring, her favorite time of year.
