Jerry Koosman, the former New York Mets pitcher who has made two Westport autograph signing appearances, pleaded guilty Friday before a federal judge in Madison, Wisc. to tax evasion charges. Koosman, who could face up to a year in prison and a $25,000 fine, neglected to pay federal income taxes for 2002, ‘03 and ‘04, defrauding the government out of as much as $90,000, prosecutors said. Koosman, who helped lead the 1969 Mets to a World Series title, maintained that he thought federal taxes applied only to federal workers, corporate employees and District of Columbia residents, court documents said. Koosman, shown during an April 2008 appearance at Legends of the Game on Post Road East, also did a similar session here in 2007. He will be sentenced on July 21.
