Newman, also founder of Newman’s Own, which gives away profits to charity, and Michel Nischan, CEO of Wholesome Wave in Bridgeport, began the Westport Farmers Market in June 2006.
“To celebrate the life of Paul Newman, the public is invited to join Newman’s Own Foundation at the Westport Farmers’ Market he so loved on Thursdays, Aug. 2 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to share your memories of Paul Newman on video,” an announcement said.
“Many people in the area have been touched by Paul and his generous spirit. This is an opportunity to tell others how much he meant to you.”
Newman died Sept. 26, 2008 at age 83 after a long battle with cancer.
Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of the Westport Farmers’ Market said, “The value Paul Newman gave to the Westport community and beyond is insurmountable.
“We at WFM are honored to celebrate the heritage of conscientious business and the proof in his example that you can make money, strengthen a local economy, and provide a helping hand all at the same time.”
The announcement said Newman’s Own Foundation will bring a life-sized cut out of Newman to the market on the August dates and people are invited to tell their stories on video.
Clips may be shared by Newman’s Own Foundation in a video and on social media, the announcement said.
