She was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on April 9, 1924 to Norine and John Casey. She received her BS in biology from Regis College in 1945.
In 1947, she was invited to attend the International Congress of Junior League of Catholic Women in Rome, representing the college women of Boston with Bishop Wright and participated in a private audience with Pope Pius XII.
She taught school for a few years, and in 1949, Bishop Wright performed the ceremony when she married David Marsden Carey of Concord, Massachusetts.
In the mid 1960s, the Careys moved to Westport and raised their five children, with all the joy, uproar, and pride that brings. They spent every summer on Cape Cod and many years at their home at Quechee, Vermont.
Eve and Dave traveled the world, visiting over 35 countries, while making some life long friends along the way.
Eve was a dedicated volunteer and involved with the PTA, American Cancer Society and all her children’s activities. Eve suffered great loss with the passing of her sons and husband. However, her faith, strength and commitment to life, allowed her to go on.
Eve was known for living in the moment and always loved to entertain family and friends with great style and energy. Eve loved any gift giving opportunity and you never left her home without a present.
Eve had a great group of friends, called the WOWS (Widows of Windstar) and they dined out every Saturday evening. One of Eve’s greatest joys were her granddaughters, Rebecca and Paige. We will all miss her smile, wit and humor, while remembering her as a lovely lady who showed kindness and compassion to all.
