Born and raised in Philadelphia, he worked for many years in the advertising industry.

He was a graduate of Temple University and then earned a graduate degree in business at Xavier University.

After a short time working for TV Guide in Cincinnati, he moved to the Chicago area to join Tatham-Laird & Kudner and raised his family on the North Shore.

In 1981, he moved to Westport to work for Wells, Rich Greene in New York City.  During Pete’s time working in New York, Carole enjoyed a career as treasurer at the Westport News.

During the nearly 40 years Pete resided in the Saugatuck area of Westport, he actively pursued his passions of nature and the arts.

Lucky to live close to the shore, he enjoyed spending time with Carole at Compo Beach, bird watching, nature hikes, jogging, reading, tennis and attending theater performances and art exhibits locally.

He is survived by his loyal and loving wife of 60-plus years, Carole Petray; his sister, Loretta Tascione (Joesph); four children, Cheryl Vargas, Craig Petray, Nancy Baer and Anne Ginley as well as 13 grandchildren (Emily, Cole, Claire, Charles, Carter, Owen, Bennett, Cooper, Davis, Lily, Henry, Ellyse and Grace). He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Pietrowicz.

Services will be private. Contributions in his name can be made to the Westport Library at westportlibrary.org/support-wpl/donate.
