Dorothy M. Vogel of Washington, Maine, a former Westport resident, died Aug. 20 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. She was 86.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1933, daughter of Charles Mitchell and Mary Puzzak Mitchell in Norwalk.
She attended local schools in Westport and graduated from nursing school at UConn. She attended grade school with her husband-to-be. Before her retirement she was a charge nurse at Carolton Chronic Care and Convalescent Center in Fairfield.
She enjoyed choral singing, knitting, crocheting, nursing and breeding Bichon Frise dogs. She was a member of the Fairfield County Chorale.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a very compassionate and dedicated nurse.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mary Mitchell. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald E. Vogel, Sr. of Washington, her son and caregiver, Donald E. Vogel, Jr. of Washington, daughters, Lynn A. Vogel of Trumbull, Suzanne M. Carey and husband Michael of Bridgeport, son, David W. Vogel of Trumbull, granddaughter Audrey Grace Vogel of New York, New York, and grandson Shaun M. Carey of Bridgeport.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m.at the Marr Cemetery, Razorville Road in Washington, on Friday.
