The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m. at 9 Norwalk Ave. On arrival, emergency responders found one man had died of his injuries and the second man was unresponsive, said Police Chief Foti Koskinas, who was at the scene.

The injured man, described as having life-threatening injuries, was taken by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital. Names of those involved were being withheld until families could be notified, said Lt. David Farrell.

A woman at the scene who was in tears said she heard someone calling for help and ran behind the three-story house to find the two men. The accident occurred in sunny, 43-degree weather.

As EMS personnel attended to the injured worker, a police officer erected yellow barrier tape around the driveway leading to the rear of the house.

A representative of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was on the scene, police said.

Police said they did not suspect foul play.

Today’s fatal construction accident was the second in Westport in less than four months.

On Aug. 24, a 69-year-old Stratford man working at a construction project on Country Lane, off of Compo Road North, was killed when struck by the boom of a concrete truck. (See WestportNow Aug. 24, 2016)
