Choices, Choices Image
The Westport Sunday Farmer’s Market opened today behind the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East. The market will run 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Sunday until Nov. 22. The Thursday Farmer’s Market is at the Imperial Avenue parking lot and runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Nov. 19. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) photo

  1. Shoppers at the farmers’ markets still have a choice of plastic checkout bags?  I guess that if you go to a farmers’ market, it is OK to use those illegal plastic checkout bags.  It is like buying “feel-good” carbon offsets to justify driving around in a limo and having a private jet.

  2. Technically, Farmers’ Markets are not allowed to have the plastic bags either (the ones for carry out, not the very thin ones for individual items)…just sayin’.

  3. Congratulations to everyone who persevered to find a solution to bring two markets a week to Westport. Even tiny European towns have two markets a week; fresher is better! Now, too, all those who work during the week, and could never make the Thursday market, have access to high quality local produce and goods, too. It’s also nice that we see different faces on Sunday among the vendors: many farmers attend several different markets a week and had conflicts on Thursday.  Last, my personal thanks to Saugatuck Congregational: how wonderful that they stepped in to provide the space, and at the same time are fulfilling their own mission to help feed those in need.  See you at the markets, everybody, and remember to bring your bags!
