Census Counts on Musically Talented High Schoolers

The judges are all notable celebrities with local roots, N2B said. They include: Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and Golden Globe award-winning songwriter and composer Justin Paul; rapper and hip-hop artist FNX; and Cheryl Kemeny, president and artistic director of Crystal Theatre, Inc. The winner will be notified via Instagram.

“The 2020 Census Throwdown is designed to tap into the power of the student population and empower them to activate and unite the entire community, reaching beyond geographic, social and economic boundaries to promote civic engagement and responsibility,” said Deborah Howland-Murray, N2B co-chairwoman.

“It is our goal to leverage the voices and platforms of local students, to encourage 2020 Census participation and make sure everyone in Connecticut is represented.”

To enter, students can upload their video to Instagram with the hashtag #N2Bcensusthrowdown and tag @norwalk2bridgeport.

Student Instagram profiles must be set to public during the submission period, the announcement said. By utilizing the hashtag students are authorizing N2B to re-post their videos across N2B social media accounts and to use participants’ entries in any way that benefits 2020 census outreach.

B2B officials stressed participants must be at least 13 years old and attend high school in Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield or Bridgeport. The deadline is Sunday, 11:59 p.m.. 

Locally, town officials and representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau have announced two upcoming events related to the 2020 U.S. Census.

On Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall auditorium, Selectwoman Jen Tooker, members of Westport’s Complete Count Task Force, and Census Bureau representatives will host the Westport 2020 Census Information Session, town officials said.

For Tuesday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Westport Center for Senior Activities at 21 Imperial Ave. has scheduled a Census Day to provide public access to computers for those who need it, officials said. 

The Senior Center asks those to attend to bring their notification of access codes with them .
