Angela P. Chiaia, 89

Angela Palmer Chiaia, a former Westport resident, died June 21 in Tucson, Arizona. She was 89.

She was born in Westport on Sept. 11, 1927 and attended Staples High School. She married Nicolas Chiaia in 1952, and they had five children and a wonderful life together, married for 59 years. She was active in the community.

Nick and Angela went on a five-year trip in which they lived in their motor home and had the opportunity to visit every state and all of the National Parks, Canada and Mexico. They also spent a significant amount of time vacationing in Europe.

In 1980, they settled in Donna, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Angela was a mentor and taught elementary students reading and language arts. They also loved to dance and would often travel to different parks to show off their considerable dancing skills.

In 2012, after the death of her husband, Angela decided to move to Arizona to be closer to her children. She was very active in the Santa Catalina Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Nicolas Chiaia, and is survived by her five children: Claude Chiaia, Nick Chiaia Jr., Jennifer Price, Joyce Chiaia, and June Logie. Also her grandchildren Maddy, Sarah, TJ, Katie, Carley, Peter, Carey and Jamie. She also had three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Gavin, and Bristol.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, Riverside Avenue, Westport.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
