Gerald J. Mariani, 76

Gerald John Mariani of Westport died Feb. 22. He was 76.

He was the youngest son of the late Vito and Anna Mariani, and a graduate of Alfred University.

He was a decorated combat veteran who served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. He was a devoted father and husband, loyal friend, avid gardener, and kind soul.

He was predeceased by his wife Anne, his brother Anthony, and his sister Rosalind. He is survived by his children Michael and Ali, niece Christina, nephew Marc, son-in-law Joe, and best friend Bruce.

High Wind Warning Issued

UPDATE The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Westport and area from 8 p.m. today until 6 p.m. Monday.

It said to expect winds west 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines, and widespread power outages are expected, the Weather Service said.

Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Woman’s Club Offers ‘Outstanding Woman’ Scholarship

The Westport Woman’s Club (WWC) is offering a college scholarship “to an outstanding woman enrolled in a post-secondary educational program.”

According to an announcement, the award will be based on financial need and the applicant’s goals upon the program’s completion.

The application deadline is Friday, March 29, according to Gloria Smithson, WWC spokeswoman.
