Church Lane to be Closed for Paving

Church Lane from Elm Street to Post Road East will be closed from Wednesday at 7 a.m. until Thursday at 5 p.m. for road grading and paving, the first selectman’s office announced today.

General vehicular traffic will be detoured via Elm Street. The section of Church Lane from Myrtle Avenue to Elm Street will remain open, an announcement said.

The street is the site of the Bedford Square project under construction.

The town urged drivers to use caution in the area and to expect potential delays. It urged use of alternate routes.

Local Take on ‘The Candidate’

Following the Westport Cinema Initiative’s (WCI) screening of “The Candidate” tonight at Westport Town Hall, there was a panel discussion with First Selectman Jim Marpe, Democratic Town Committee Chair Melissa Kane, and Douglas TIrola, filmmaker and WCI board vice president. Participants pointed to the local politicians’ ability to work with each other for the good of the town. “The Candidate,” a 1972 satirical comedy-drama film starring Robert Redford examines the various facets and machinations involved in political campaigns. Comings & Goings: Women’s Wellness Center Opens Nov. 9

Me, Myself and I, a for-women-only wellness center, opens at 1869 Post Road East in the Old Sasco Mill center, on Nov. 9. Pianist Jenny Lin Performs

Pianist Jenny Lin played a “Sketches of Spain” program today at the Saugatuck Congregational Church in the second concert of the Westport Arts Center’s 2016-17 Chamber Music series. Her concert featured the music of Igor Stravinsky, Antonio Soler and Enrique Granados. Born in Taiwan, and raised in Austria and the United States, she began her piano studies at the age of 4. Upcoming WAC concerts include a special jazz lounge event featuring Atla and Matt DeChamplain on Thursday, Nov. 3 and pianist Pedja Muzijevic on Sunday, Dec. 4. Trunk or Treat at Methodist Church

More than 150 children and their parents today attended the Trunk or Treat event
at the United Methodist Church of Westport and Weston. Guests received free treats and in turn gave back to the community by donating canned foods to Person-to- Person, a Norwalk-based community-supported agency that provides emergency assistance for basic needs, and support for individuals and families in need.
