She was born Dec. 12, 1927 in Lima, Ohio and was reared in Lakewood, Ohio, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1945. She earned a BA from Oberlin College in 1949 and later an MA from Fairfield University.

In 1948, she met Garth Dimon at Oberlin College. She and Garth were married later that year. Following Garth’s hire by Proctor & Gamble in 1951, the couple became corporate gypsies, living in Cincinnati (twice); Cranford, N.J.; and Baltimore.

In 1966, Garth took a position with Clairol, and they moved with their four children to Westport, a relocation which enabled Garth’s subsequent promotions through the executive ranks at Clairol’s parent corporation, Bristol-Myers.
