Real Estate Report: Condo Market Shining

By Judy Szablak

Westport’s condominium market is shining brightly, with only five units available for sale, and a total of six under some stage of deposit.

When deposit ratios are so high, the market favors sellers, and supply and demand is certainly evident in this segment of the market. Inventory is approximately 25 percent of what it was at its high earlier in 2015.

There are just not that many condominium communities in town, which also contributes to the brisk activity.

According to Assessor Paul Friia, there are just 16 complexes in town, and another two that are are comprised of commercial and residential use.

Westport Author’s Secret No More: Her Husband Died of AIDS

By James Lomuscio

Westport author Maggie Kneip says for years she kept the cause of her husband’s death a closely held secret. She rarely talked about it except when she confided in close friends, family or in support groups.

She says she wanted to shield her two small children, as well as having to come to grips with his death herself.

Her husband John F. Andrew, a reporter and editor for The Wall Street Journal, died of AIDS in 1991 at the age of 36. He left behind a 3-year-old daughter and a new born baby son.

Now, 24 years later, Kneip has dropped the secrecy in a new book, “Now Everyone Will Know: The Perfect Husband, His Shattering Secret, My Rediscovered Life.” It takes on a special meaning today, World AIDS Day.
