An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 225 Greens Farms Road, opposite the Nyala Farms office complex, is in process. Built in 1900, the two-story colonial has 1,480 square feet and is situated on a 2.93-acre property. Because the house was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

TEAM Westport Essay Contest Opens

TEAM Westport, the acronym of which stands for “Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism,” today announced its second annual essay contest, the thesis of which underscores the group’s mission.

The contest is being co-sponsored with the Westport Library.

Open to ninth through twelfth graders from Staples High School, Greens Farms Academy or students who attend high school out of town, this year’s essay prompt places the welcoming theme directly on each student’s lap.

“The topic for this second essay contest is based on the reality that the school cafeteria is often a setting in which students self-segregate,” states the TEAM Westport announcement.

Penna said that Austin was one of three arrested in June 2012 for passing $100 bills at businesses “up and down Route 1.”
