Y’s Men Ready Memorial Day Float Image
Members of the Y’s Men of Westport Weston work on the group’s float for Monday’s Memorial Day parade. The float models a World War II landing craft as a remembrance of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landing on June 6, 1944. The Y’s Men group counts 62 World War II veterans among its members, including some who participated in the landing or the ensuing action. Several of these veterans will ride on the float. Westport Outdoors: Saugatuck Craft Butchery Image
The Saugatuck Craft Butchery is today’s featured spot in our WestportNow series, Westport Outdoors, highlighting popular spots where Westporters gather to eat, play, or relax during the warm-weather months. Co-owner Paul Nessel said this is the first spring season since the business relocated from across the street last September and the outdoor seating has become an attraction. “The activity in Saugatuck Center is picking up since all the space is now occupied including Saugatuck Sweets which opened this month in our former location,” he said. Blumenthal will make a “special announcement” at a June 6 fundraiser for the super PAC Ready for Hillary at the Westport home of Ann Sheffer and Bill Scheffler, according to an invitation sent to area Democrats by Martha Aasen, former Westport Democratic Committee town chair.

Harold Ickes, a Bill Clinton White House aide who is now a senior adviser to Ready for Hillary will also give an “important update,” the invitation said. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tickets start at $201.60 (a nod to the year 2016) for the “sponsor” level and go up to $1,000 for the “cohost” level.

The National Journal said Blumenthal joins Democratic Sens. Debbie Stabenow, Barbara Boxer and Dick Durbin, who announced their support for Clinton earlier this week, and Sen. Tim Kaine, who threw his support behind Clinton earlier this month. Several other Democratic leaders have urged Clinton to run.
