As winner of a recent Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge to increase residential energy efficiency, Westport was awarded $44,000 in reward dollars. Some of the funds went to some purchase this electric vehicle to be operated by Compo Beach Parks and Recreation Staff. Looking over the new vehicle on Saturday were Dan DeVito, operations supervisor, P&R.; Pippa Bell Ader, Green Task Force; Samantha Schwartz, guest services, P&R, and Lee Halpern, facility manager, P&R. Residents can still take advantage of the ongoing state program. As an added incentive, the Green Task Force has arranged that the co-pays for visits completed by New England Smart Energy or New England Conservation Services by Oct. 31 go to the Westport Warm Up Fund.  (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Phyllis Groner for WestportNow.com

Himes ‘Pleased’ With Obama Request on Syria

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes said tonight he was “pleased” by President Obama’s request that Congress authorize the use of military force in Syria.

“I am pleased that the President will seek Congressional approval for any United States military action in Syria, as I believe is required by law,” Himes said in a statement.

“I urge the Speaker to call Congress into session immediately to consider the President’s request. We must be very clear on the specific objectives and possible consequences of any military action we may pursue.

He said the Syrian civil war “is complex and unpredictable, with meaningful risk of regional expansion.”
