Staples Players present “Into The Woods,” with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, beginning Friday night. The fairy tale-style story includes familiar characters such as Cinderella, Jack (from Jack the Beanstalk), Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, and more. It is focused on a baker and his wife, and the journey they take to break a curse that has been put upon them by the witch living next door. Y to Unveil ‘Phase One’ Monday Night

UPDATE( updates fund-raising amounts) A presentation of plans for the new Westport Weston Family Y at Camp Mahackeno is scheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of Christ & Holy Trinity Church, Rob Reeves, Y CEO, announced today.

Reeves said that Y officials and its development partners comprising builders and engineers will detail plans for what is being called Phase I as the Y commences its relocation from the downtown to the 32-acre summer camp it owns on Sunny Lane in the northeast section of town.

Reeves also said that the Y is rounding the last lap of its fund-raising goal, with $30 million of the $36 million required to begin construction in October.

“Our ability to raise the funds that we need is within reach,” Reeves said.

Priscilla R. Doland, 90

Priscilla R. Doland of Monroe, widow of the late William T. Doland Sr., died March 13. She was 90.

Born in Bridgeport and raised in Norwalk, she resided in Westport for 54 years prior to moving to Monroe.

In addition to her late husband she was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Vega. She is survived by her daughter Susan Doland of Monroe and her sons, William T. Doland Jr. and wife Pamela of Branford, James Doland of Lumberton,Texas, and Michael Doland and wife Sandra of Beaumont, Texas, also grandchildren, Cheryl Doland Muldoon, Jennifer Doland, Jason Doland, Justin Doland, Danielle Doland, Erin Doland, James Polk , Christine Vega, Sarah Vega, Rebekah Vega and her beloved cat Riley.

Services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home in Monroe.

Selectmen Approve Pop-Up Cafes, Golf Fee Increases

In a busy session, the Westport Board of Selectmen tonight unanimously approved pop-up cafes in the downtown area, raised golf fees by $1 at Longshore Club Park, and increased the fine for summer season illegal parking in beach areas from $50 to $75. The board also raised 10-ticket entry books to Compo Beach from $170 to $225 on weekdays and from $340 to $425 on weekends and holidays. Also on the agenda was approval of two $10,000 gifts from the Robert and Lou Ann Giunta Foundation and Sam Sloat Coins, Inc. to support the Police Department K9 program.
