Harriet L. Hodish, 84

Harriet L. Hodish, wife of Hyman Hodish of Westport, died March 30 at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. She was 84.

Born April 13, 1927 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Minna and Louis Levenson. In addition to her husband, Hyman, she is survived by her son Michael Hodish.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 1, at 11 a.m. in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial will follow in Beth El Memorial Park, Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Shiva will be observed at the home of Hyman Hodish from 2 p.m. on Sunday until Thursday evening. Minyan will gather at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Congregation Beth El, 109 East Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851, or to the Alzheimer’s Association 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.

William A. Romano, 83

William A. Romano, a Staples High School graduate, died Feb. 17 at Sun City Hospice House, Ruskin, Fla. after a brief illness. He was 83.

He was born on July 17, 1928 in Norwalk and attended Staples High School in Westport. He served in the U.S. Army as PFC during the Korean War from 1949-1951 and then went on to become a partner/owner of L & L Air Conditioning and Heating of Norwalk until his retirement to Ruskin.

He was an avid golfer and loved race horses. He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Romano, his step-son Bruce Laurance of St. Petersburg, Fla., his brother, Richard Romano of Norwalk, and his life partner, Jeanne Carter of Ruskin. He was preceded in death by his wife Freda (Rosenbloom) Romano and his parents, William and Mary Romano. Services will be private.

Celebrating ‘SOLOS 2012’ Opening

The Westport Arts Center (WAC) held a reception tonight to mark the opening of its 2012 Juried Members Exhibition, SOLOS, sponsored by Sun Hill Foundation.  This year, the artwork includes painting, sculpture, photographs, and prints. From more than 100 applicants, eight artists were selected to participate. They include June Ahrens of New Canaan, Charles Geiger of Poughkeepsie, Ellen Hackl Fagan of New York City, Arcady Kotler of Long Island City, Donald Leeds of Weston, Timothy Pyle of Fairfield, and Carolyn Rie and Kraemer Sims Becker of Westport. Opening Night


Eight artists are featured in the Westport Arts Center annual member juried exhibit “SOLOS 2012” which opened tonight with a reception. This year’s exhibition was juried by Ian Berry, associate director and The Susan Rabinowitz Malloy ’45 Curator of The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College. “Pattern and reflection are common elements found in the work of the eight artists,” he said. Bama Has a Forever Family

Bama is a one-year-old staffordshire terrier-bulldog mix that is being fostered by a WASA (www.westportwasa.org) volunteer in Westport after being rescued from a CT animal control facility.  She is calm, loving, smart and affectionate with people of all ages and other dogs.  She knows all her basic commands and is housebroken.  Bama has been having a wonderful time meeting new friends at Winslow Park in Westport.  For additional information about Bama, please send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Cooper has found a wonderful new home in Southport and gets to swim and run every day.  He’s a happy boy.  Cooper is a 9-month-old Chocolate Lab-Golden mix that was being fostered by a WASA (www.westportwasa.org) volunteer in Westport.  He came to WASA from a family in Norwalk that did not have time for this friendly and active pup.  Cooper plays nicely with other dogs and stays by your side while walking on trails.  He is housebroken, neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.  He is very affectionate and wiggly and is doing much better with his enthusiastic greeting of new friends.  For additional information about Cooper, please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
