Freight Derailment Disrupts New Haven Line Service

UPDATE Metro-North said in early afternoon today that New Haven Line trains are operating on or close to schedule following a freight train derailment near Bridgeport late Friday night that disrupted service for 14 hours.

An advisory issued shortly after 1 p.m.announced the resumption of normal service and added: “We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of the earlier incident near Bridgeport.”

Service between Fairfield and Bridgeport was knocked out until about 8:30 a.m. because of the derailment and Metro-North set up a shuttle bus service. The disruption caused delays of up to 45 minutes in both directions.

Amtrak said trains in the Northeast Corridor were also disrupted with service between Stamford and New Haven temporarily suspended because of the freight train derailment late Friday night in Bridgeport that blocked four tracks on the New Haven Line.

Schools, Town Consolidate Information Technology

By James Lomuscio

Westport Schools Superintendent Elliott Landon today sent a memo to town elected officials saying that consolidation of school and town Information Technology (IT) services is under way to net savings.

Landon’s memo, addressed to the Board of Education and circulated to Board of Finance and Representative Town Meeting (RTM) members, followed up on a report to the Board of Education at its Monday meeting by Nancy Harris, assistant superintendent of business,

He said the IT consolidation plan expected to be implemented within the next few weeks is “a major breakthrough.”

Under the plan, the school board will assume full responsibility for all town and school mailroom operations run by IT and will work to develop a new model governing town and school Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) telephone responsibilities.
