The father, who graduated from Staples in 1973, had also been the recipient of a Staples grant, a $500 gift that he said had allowed him to buy the necessary tools launch a career as an auto mechanic.

The younger Kerrigan, who will be a senior at New York’s Parson’s School of Design, received a $4,000 scholarship from the Westport Rotary.

He was one of 108 Staples seniors and graduates who received $1,000 to $5,000 grants, some of them multiple times, from the Staples Tuition Grants (STG) Committee. Now in its 68th year, the STG Committee administered $300,000 in scholarships at a packed ceremony in the Staples library. More than 200 attended.
