Flash Flood Warning Issued

The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has issued a flash flood warning for Westport and area until 3:15 p.m. today.

It said Doppler radar indicated locally heavy rainfall ongoing over the area with a second batch of locally heavy rainfall on the way that will produce flash flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots, the Weather Service said.

It reminded motorists not to drive into flooded areas.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued

The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Westport and area until 12:45 p.m.

It said Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph were in Westchester County and moving east at 30 mph.

In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, the National Weather Service said.
