Newman’s Own Donates to Support Westport AEDs

The Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS) announced today that it has received a grant of $3,000 from Newman’s Own Foundation in support of its program of maintaining the Town of Westport’s Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs).

AEDs are medical devices designed to be used by first responders and the lay public for emergency treatment of patients in cardiac arrest.  They are a critical link in what the American Heart Association has termed the “Chain of Survival.”

Fifty AEDs were originally purchased and distributed to the town in 2005, thanks to a fund-raising effort sponsored jointly by the Downtown Merchants Association and the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce.

AEDs are located in Westport town buildings, schools, and all emergency vehicles (Police, Fire and EMS).  The batteries and disposable defibrillator pads in these AEDs are now expiring and are in need of replacement.

Horsing Around at the Church for Westport’s 175th Birthday Image
A horse and rider practiced their paces on the grounds of the Saugatguck Congregational Church on Post Road East as part of a special 175th birthday salute to Westport on Friday. The 3 p.m. event arranged by Dorothy Curran, president of the Westport Historical Society involves an imagined re-enactment of “how Westport came to be” in 1835 and what’s happened since. Local dignitaries in costume will participate and the public is welcome.  The fun will culminate with a blow-out-the-candles birthday cake ceremony. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Larry Untermeyer for
