The design work will include platform repair, canopy improvements, safety improvements to stairs, ramps, handrails and lighting fixtures.

The governor also announced that she has ordered creation of a task force to undertake a new review of parking management and capacity issues along the New Haven Line.

A visual inspection report completed two years ago by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) at Rell’s direction identified what was then estimated at $389 million in needed repairs and maintenance on New Haven Line stations. (See WestportNow Feb. 23, 2007)

Westport’s Main Street has lost another tenant—Katzenberg Kafe. The coffee house/deli at 22 Main St. closed without announcement around New Year’s Day after a five-year run. (See WestportNow Oct. 3, 2003) But the windows were covered and its status was not clear until a for rent sign went up. The vacancy in the former location of Moonstruck and The Coffee Tree is one of a number that have occurred in recent months on Westport’s premier shopping street. Ice Rescue at Compo (Just a Drill)

WestportNow.com Image
Westport firefighters practiced simulated “victim fallen through the ice” rescues at Compo Beach today for training. Firefighters donned cold water exposure suits, and used a special ice water rescue sled device, each taking turns rescuing each other. Each of the Fire Departments vehicles carries at least one of these specialized suits that allows firefighters to enter frigid cold water and performs rescues of those stranded above the water that have fallen through the ice or into water below 70 degrees that cause rapid onset of hyperthermia.
