Thomas discussed how the book came to be written to answer a need for a book with liberating ideas not available when she was a child, a book that said it was all right for boys to cry, and for girls to aspire to hitherto “unacceptable” occupations.

She proudly recounted a conversation with Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg, an unexpected fan of the book.

Thomas’s rapport with the audience was especially evident during the Q and A session at the end of her presentation when many delighted youngsters, both boys and girls, joined her on stage to sing their favorite songs from her album.
