A truck delivering trees rolled down a driveway on Myrtle Avenue today and smashed through a wrought iron fence across the street around Christ and Holy Trinity Church as spectators were gathering to watch today’s Memorial Day parade. Westporters Eric and Diane Bosch said they and their family had made where the truck hit “their spot” for 28 years to watch the parade but moved moments before the accident because the sun was so strong. Y’s Men’s Theme is Washington Crossing the Delaware
The Memorial Day parade float of the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston depicted Washington’s crossing of the Delaware on Dec. 25, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War, the first move in a surprise attack against the Hessian forces at Trenton, New Jersey in the Battle of Trenton. The group dedicated the float to Barry McCabe, a long-time member who died last November. For more Memorial Day photos by Larry Untermeyer click here.
