Two crashes tonight within a short time and distance of each other on the Merritt Parkway between Exits 42 and 44 sent nine persons to area hospitals. A three-car accident in the northbound lane shortly after 8 p.m. injured six persons. A short time later, a car rolled over in the southbound lane nearby. UPDATE A series of afternoon and evening accidents today on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway kept Westport emergency workers busy and sent 10 persons to area hospitals.

The Westport Fire Department responded at 2:55 p.m. to a report of a multi-vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-95 between Exits 18 and 19, said Assistant Chief Robert Kepchar.
On arrival, firefighters found a two-vehicle accident that took out about 30 feet of guard rail which prevented the cars from plunging down a steep embankment, he said.
One patient was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital by an American Medical Response ambulance.
Various officials are reviewing an application for a permit to demolish the house at 26 Bermuda Road in the Saugatuck Shores area. The 1954 two-story custom contemporary has 3,695 square feet and is situated on a one-half acre waterfront lot. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
