Police:  Latest “Click It or Ticket” Campaign Effective

Their latest “Click It or Ticket” campaign to promote seat belt use appeared to be a success, according to Westport police.

The department issued 55 infractions for seat belt violations during the Nov. 12-Nov. 25 campaign, it said. “More importantly, an increased usage of seat belts was observed,” said Lt. Thomas P. Casimiro II in a statement.

On Nov. 5, a survey of 200 drivers on Weston Road showed 80 percent were belted, he said. On Nov. 26 at the same time and location, the number had improved to 95 percent.

“Hopefully, the motoring public is getting the message that seat belts save lives,” Casimiro said.

Thanks for a Great Season Image
Staples coach Marce Petroccio has some season-ending words of thanks to his Wreckers following their 28-14 loss to Bunnell tonight at Trumbull. Staples ended with an 8-2 record. It was the seventh successive state playoff appearance for the Wreckers. Said Petroccio: “I feel awful for my seniors who worked so hard all year. It’s hard to fall short like this. It’s a new feeling for me. It doesn’t quite feel right that there’s a state championship game going on and we’re not going to be there.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) photo
