Kelly, 81, was informed of the award at a luncheon in his honor.
The USA Field Hockey honorees will now join selections from other Olympic sport governing bodies as nominees for the U. S. Olympic Committee’s Coaches of the Year to be announced later this spring.
As a volunteer assistant coach at Staples, Kelly provides head coach Ralph Unker and the Lady Wreckers everything from stick skills and defensive insight to stick repair and Band-Aids. And it is all done with his signature patience, kindness and vitality, the award announcement said.

Echo is everything wonderful in life all rolled into one tremendous dog: fun, playful, loving, and very smart with just a touch of klutziness. He is a 10-month-old handsome brindle altered male hound mix and you can find him at the CT Humane Society (455 Post Road E., (203) 227-4137). He was pretty much left to fend for himself until his owners decided that didn’t want him around anymore. This sweet dog deserves so much more. He learns quickly and melts your heart when he responds so happily to praise. He will win your heart quickly.
Our delightful little Snow is sticking her tongue out on all those people who say senior dogs don’t make wonderful pets. Snow is a spayed female senior poodle mix that can be found at the CT Humane Society (455 Post Road E., (203) 227-4137). This spunky little girl has a lot of living to do and will make a lovely and friendly companion for some lucky person. She would do best in an adult home. It’s quite sad and depressing for Snow and those that love her at the CT Humane Society each day she has to wait for her loving new home. So, please stop by soon to meet our special Snow.
