Cook for a Cause Supports Local Charities

Westport’s River House Tavern will present a series of charity-themed dinners hosted by a selection of notable individuals from southwestern Connecticut in the first “Cook for a Cause” campaign.

Area leaders in education, government, entertainment, not-for-profit and business will work with owner and chef Stephen Alward to create their own signature “Special of the Week” dish that will be featured on the nightly menu, according to an announcement.

The guest chefs will also personally host a reservation-only, prix fixe cocktail reception and dinner with proceeds going to their charity of choice.

Susie Basler, Project Return executive director, will kick off Cook for a Cause with a dinner Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. The event will support Project Return, a therapeutic group home residence for adolescent girls in crisis.

Compo Playground Raises Funds with Pickets

Supporters of Westport’s new Compo Beach playground can have their name at the new park by sponsoring a picket in the fence or a piece of the equipment.

The pickets and equipment sponsorships are available until Feb. 14, according to organizers.

For $50, a supporter can engrave up to 17 letters—names or company title—on one of the pickets from the fence that will surround the playground.

Community members can also sponsor playground equipment with their donations.
