RTM Election Features Open Spots

By Jennifer Connic

The Westport Representative Town Meeting (RTM) race in November features three districts without enough candidates, four districts with uncontested elections and two districts that are contested. But residents still have a chance to run for the 36-member town legislative body.

Petitions to run for the RTM, which is non-partisan, were due in the town clerk’s office Tuesday.

Fourteen current members have decided not to seek re-election. Among them are two seeking town-wide offices. Gordon Joseloff, District 8, the RTM’s moderator since 1995 and an RTM member since 1991, is the Democratic candidate for first selectman. Helen Garten, District 3, is a Democratic candidate for the Board of Finance.

Only District 2 and District 5 feature contested races. Both have five candidates running.
