State Voter Hot Line Not So Hot

State Voter Hot Line Not So Hot
Westport and other Connecticut voters who witnessed or experienced election-related irregularities today and who tried to call a state-wide hot line number found the line was not so hot. They got a recording.

State and federal officials Monday widely publicized the number— 1-866-733-2463 (1-866-SEEC-INFO).

The State Elections Enforcement Commission, the primary elections investigative and civil enforcement authority in the state, said it would staff the hotline during polling hours today, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

But up until at least 7:30 a.m., all callers got was a recording telling them to leave a message and some one would get back to them during regular business hours.

The joint effort also involves the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the office of the Secretary of the State and the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office.

Westport’s Registrars of Voters office (341-1115) was fully staffed and answering voters’ questions when the polls opened at 6 a.m.

Some Bargains Down the Road in Norwalk

You’ve got to go to Norwalk, but the prices may make the journey worthwhile. WestportNow.com photo

I know I did a Frans List Oct. 25 surveying coffee prices around town, and I know this really isnҒt a list, and this really isnt Westport. (So sue me.) But I just had to inform my WestportNow readers of this gem anyway.
I did a double take when I noticed a sign at Norwalk’s newest addition, the new Chestnut Mart Shell Station at 307 Connecticut Ave., just off Scribner Avenue (Exit 14 off I-95).
As a one-month promotion ending mid-November, any size coffee is priced at the historic price of 49 cents plus tax.
As part of its promotion to attract new customers the spiffy new roadside gas emporium is also offering a gallon of milk for $1.99, a dozen eggs for 99 cents, and a small-coffee-plus-bagel breakfast for $1.99.
Worth a detour, I think. I also took advantage of $1.759 per gallon self-serve unleaded gas, one of the best bargains around.
