The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has issued an urban flood advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas until 11:45 a.m.

UPDATE Power problems left about half of Westport’s Bedford Middle School without power at about 8 a.m. today
Fire officials said there appeared to be a problem with a breaker on a pole on North Avenue near the school.
Power was restored a short time later.
There were scattered power outages reported throughout town due to the weather.
UPDATE At 10:50 a.m., Metro-North reported 5-10 minute delays on its New Haven Line due to weather problems. Passengers at the Westport station in Saugatuck protected themselves from the rain as they awaited a New York-bound train today. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Allan Siegert for WestportNow.com

Affordable housing and putting the brakes on McMansions were the thrust of two Westport Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission public hearings Thursday night.

Proposed text amendments were discussed and debated for more than four hours in the Town Hall auditorium.
Affordable housing amendments 618 and 619, pitched by Laurence Bradley, director of the Planning and Zoning Department, received overwhelming support. But amendment 621 designed to change coverage requirements in the hope of limiting big houses brought a groundswell of opposition.
Residents and even town bodies including the Conservation Department and the Architectural Review Board came out swinging.

The National Weather Service said tonight a high wind warning remains in effect for the Westport area until 6 a.m. Friday as well as a flood watch through Friday night.
An advisory said southerly winds will continue to increase tonight. Sustained winds are expected to increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour with wind gusts mainly 40 to 50 mph.
The potential for 60 mph wind gusts remains tonight coinciding with heavier downpours.
Wind gusts tonight will be capable of downing trees due to moist soils from heavy rainfall. The winds will diminish from west to east early Friday morning, the advisory said.
UPDATE As winds picked up tonight, Connecticut Light and Power Company reported power outages in Westport.
At 10:30 p.m., CL&P said 33 Westport customers were without power, down from more than 500 earlier in the evening.
