Proposed text amendments were discussed and debated for more than four hours in the Town Hall auditorium.

Affordable housing amendments 618 and 619, pitched by Laurence Bradley, director of the Planning and Zoning Department, received overwhelming support. But amendment 621 designed to change coverage requirements in the hope of limiting big houses brought a groundswell of opposition.

Residents and even town bodies including the Conservation Department and the Architectural Review Board came out swinging.

High Wind Warning Remains in Effect Along With Flood Watch

The National Weather Service said tonight a high wind warning remains in effect for the Westport area until 6 a.m. Friday as well as a flood watch through Friday night.

An advisory said southerly winds will continue to increase tonight. Sustained winds are expected to increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour with wind gusts mainly 40 to 50 mph.

The potential for 60 mph wind gusts remains tonight coinciding with heavier downpours.

Wind gusts tonight will be capable of downing trees due to moist soils from heavy rainfall. The winds will diminish from west to east early Friday morning, the advisory said.
