Playhouse’s “Children” Begins Previews on Tuesday

WestportNow.com Image
Mary Bacon and James Waterston, who co-star with Tony Award-winner Katie Finneran and Emmy Award-winner Judith Light in A.R. Gurney’s 1974 play “Children,” complete rehearsals for the show which previews at the Westport Country Playhouse beginning Tuesday with its opening night on Saturday. The play, which is set in 1970, focuses on a family of grown children who gather for an annual picnic hosted by their mother, a widow, who tells them that she is divesting herself of the house they all grew up in to live with another man. It runs to June 13. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

Home Burglarized and Police Arrest Suspect Short Time Later

A Westport resident’s Memorial Day holiday was shattered today when she returned home and found that it had been burglarized. But fast work by Westport police nabbed the suspect and recovered her stolen goods.

The resident returned to her Compo Road North home at 3:40 p.m. and found that the rear door had been forced open, said Sergeant Foti Koskinas. Unaware when the break in took place, police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, he said.

Officer Adam McLarin while responding to the victim’s home spotted a white male in another Compo Road North driveway and advised the perimeter units, Koskinas said. Officer Kevin Smith spotted the man from a perimeter post and detained him without incident.

During the investigative detention of the suspect, a Westport police dog tracked from the burglary scene to the suspect and stolen goods from the home were found on the suspect, Koskinas said.
