Suzanne Marilyn Lieblich Rubenstein, 87

Suzanne Marilyn Lieblich Rubenstein of Westport died early Wednesday, the second day of Rosh Hashanah, at the age of 87. Her loving influence on her family, friends and the many communities she lived in across the country will be felt for generations to come.

Sue was born in Manhattan in 1921 and grew up in Manhattan and Maplewood, N.J. She graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood where she excelled in academics, theater, and swimming.

After establishing a major in theatre at Smith College, she graduated as the college’s first drama major in 1942, and in 1943 married Rabbi Byron T. Rubenstein who was to be her beloved husband for 47 years before his death in 1990.

Sue did graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis, and subsequently she and “B.T.” lived in Michigan City, Ind.; Duluth, Minn.; and Highland Park, Ill.

One Hurt in I-95 Crash

A New York woman escaped serious injury shortly after noon today when the left front tire of her SUV blew out as she headed north on I-95 near the Hillspoint Road overpass in Westport. Her car veered into the dual wheels of a tractor-trailer, then shot across the highway into the center median, said Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury. She was treated at the scene by Westport fire and EMS personnel and transported to Norwalk Hospital. The driver of the truck from Utah was shaken up but uninjured. Located at 420 Post Road West, the building formerly housed a TD Banknorth branch. Hudson Valley Bank announced its intention to take over the spot last April. (See WestportNow April 9, 2008)

“We remain financially strong despite the turmoil in the industry today and are committed to meeting the banking needs of Fairfield County,” said James J. Landy, bank president and chief executive officer.

The branch, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., also features a 24-hour ATM and drive up window.
