Beasley traveled to Germany in November 2006 and met with the students under the auspices of the Jewish Museum there and told them of her recollections as a 9-year-old surviving the Holocaust.

Their paintings and collages, part of an exhibit called “Memories of a Childhood Lost,” will remain on display at Earthplace,The Nature Discovery Center, through April 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Oh, Shea

Shea, a 2-year-old Boston Terrier, romps at Westport’s Compo Beach on Saturday. This is the last weekend of the season dogs are allowed at the beach—the ban goes into effect Tuesday until Oct. 1. Shea is owned by Brandy Stanton of Westport who named her dog in honor of New York’s Shea Stadium. She felt that while the stadium, now in its final season as home of the Mets, will be replaced next year by a new stadium with a new name, her dog will help keep the name Shea alive. I’m Gracie and I Have a New Family

Cocker spaniel Gracie needs a new home
Hi, I’m Gracie! Connecticut Humane Society

Gracie is a happy little cocker spaniel who gets along with most other dogs but prefers teenagers or adults. She more of a couch potato than a playtime pal but she can get active when she feels like it. Gracie would be an ideal companion for a relaxed adult home with cocker spaniel experience. Come to meet her at the CT Humane Society in Westport!

I’m Sam and I Have a Forever Home

Siamese cat Sam needs a new home
Hi, I’m Sam! Connecticut Humane Society

Sam is a sweet boy who gets along well with people but should be an only pet. He’s a big boy who loves to lounge around and meow commands to those those play with him. His job, before he came to CHS, was to be the pillow to a 2 year old girl! While here, his temperament has changed a bit and we now recommend Sam to a home with older children. If you love Siamese and want to meet this handsome man, come on down to the Westport branch of the CT Humane Society.

I’m Sophia and I’ve Been Adopted

Mixed breed dog Sophia needs a home
Hi, I’m Sophia! Connecticut Humane Society

Sophia is the “manager’s special” here at the shelter (just kidding). She is a very calm girl but when you tell her she is allowed to play and let loose ... she really plays and lets loose!  She is extremely devoted and attentive to people. People are her world and what they say goes. Sophia is very playful, very loving, and very affectionate.  She shows her happiness and excitement with her rear by wiggling uncontrollably! She’s wonderful with all other animals and with children. She will make any household complete! Come to meet her at the Westport branch of the CT Humane Society.

Volunteer Comments about Sophia:
“I am not certain Sophia has been named properly. I think ‘Wiggle Bottom’ might be better. Sophia can’t stop wagging! She is a cute girl anxious to endear herself to you and you might find yourself stranded temporarily when she coils into a ball at your feet to show her appreciation. You will be left with no choice ... she loves to be cuddled and is irresistible on that point. A clever girl, she may help you exercise as she loves to leash-walk and meet other dogs outside.”

I’m Casey and I Have a Forever Home

Shepherd mix Casey needs a home
Hi, I’m Casey! Connecticut Humane Society

Casey is a senior Shepherd mix. Adopted out of the CT Humane Society as a puppy, Casey was returned after 10 years when his family could no longer care for him. He’s an affectionate boy who prefers to lay with his head in your lap than curl up on his own. He loves the outdoors and is eager to investigate new yards! Casey would best be placed with children 8+ who can respect that he’s a bit older. He gets along with some dogs but we are unsure of his cat experience. He walks wonderfully on a leash and loves to play fetch. If you think Casey is the rescue for you, come to meet him at the CT Humane Society in Westport!
