Substance Abuse Program Set for Staples on Thursday

Westport’s Teen Awareness Group of Staples High School will sponsor a one-man show of substance abuse and choices called “Dirt” on Thursday at the school, Westport’s Department of Human Services announced today.

“’Dirt’ is not a lecture or a seminar but rather a play of characters performed by actor John Morello” said Barbara Butler, department director. “Morello slips in and out of his characters to tell a compelling and unique story which is unfortunately familiar to far too many young people.”

“Dirt” recently was named the No. 1 recommended assembly for young people by the New England chapters of Students Against Drunk Driving and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The Teen Awareness Group will sponsor two performances during the school day and encourages parents of students to talk with their children about their experience, Butler said.

WestportNow Before and After: 18 Sue Terrace

WestportNow today begins a new series by Dave Matlow showing WestportNow Teardowns of the Day and their replacement houses. The new house at 18 Sue Terrace off Crescent Road is a notable property to debut the series.  As reported in a story on March 24, 2007 when the house was demolished, two neighboring families bought the property so they and not a developer would determine what would be built there. It was the WestportNow Teardown of the Day on June 14, 2006. Click on the photos or arrows to see the transformation. Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
