Virginia Kaufman, a longtime Westport resident, died Aug. 9. She was 100.
She was the daughter of Ralph and Lena (Brettner) Bass. She was married to Irving Kaufman from 1941 until his death in 2006.
She was born in New York City and remained a New York resident, living in Scarsdale, until 1969 when she moved to Westport. For the last three years, she lived at Hawthorne Ridge in East Greenbush, New York.
She was a homemaker all her life, and a passionate collector of art and antiques. She was creative and enjoyed needlepoint, making pillows for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook for her family, passing on recipes for chicken soup and authentic Italian spaghetti sauce, among many others.
She is survived by her four daughters, Heather (Alan) Silverman of Philadelphia, Fern (John) Rosenberg of Shawnee, Kansas; Dawn (Scott) Wallant of Feura Bush, New York, and Penni Kaufman of Hookset, New Hampshire. She is survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 14 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Shiva will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. and minion at 7:30 at the home of Dawn and Scott Wallant, 553 Rowe Road,, Feura Bush.
