Cornelia E. Smollin, 87

Cornelia Elizabeth Smollin of Westport died June 15 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was 87.

She was born on March 30, 1930 in Spring Lake, New Jersey to Edward and Cora Mueller.

She earned an Associate Degree from Pratt Institute in 1950 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1975.

She raised a family of four in Westport where she spent most of her adult life. She was known for her sharp tennis game, culinary magic, and handmade quilts. She loved playing cards, reading and moral wisdom.

A book of her poetry, “Cornelia Smollin — Poetic Works,” was published in 2014.

Cornelia outlived her parents, brothers Edward and Donald, husband Michael 2010, daughter Elizabeth 2000, son Steven 2008. She is survived by two offspring, Mark Smollin and Jennifer Denison.

Family will attend a private memorial dinner in Reno, Nevada, to honor her life at the end of August.
