The Westport Police Department and Westport Youth Services are looking for students in grades 8-10 for a new Westport Police-Youth Club, an announcement said.
The club’s aim is to enhance communication and foster a better understanding between the two groups, it said.
Funded through a grant award from the CT Office of Policy and Management and its Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, the club will include monthly meetings, team building, and community service opportunities for youth and Westport police officers to work together.
By bringing students and police together in a nonenforcement capacity for meaningful discussion, the group hopes to continue to strengthen a healthy community with a foundation of mutual respect, the announcement said.
Space for the program is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Permission slips are available on the town website (http://www.westportct.gov) under Youth Services or http://www.westportct.gov/yc-permission-slip.
