Officers arrested a New Haven woman, who after excusing herself to go to the restroom, added a $300 restaurant gift card purchase on to her first date’s credit card without him knowing, police said today.
Katherine Stonick, who had told the victim her name was Sophie, turned herself in on an active warrant Friday and was arrested for illegal use of a credit card and sixth-degree larceny, according to Lt. David Farrell. He said he theft took place on Aug. 17.
Farrell said the victim and Stonick had dinner at Finalmente Trattoria at 165 Post Road East in Westport, and when the victim paid for the meal, “Stonick requested a $300 gift card to be paid by the victim’s credit card without the victim knowing.”
“Stonick reportedly excused herself from the table to use the restroom, and asked the manager to complete the gift card charge,” Farrell said.
He added that she used the gift card at the restaurant the next day and the day after.
The victim, who was able to provide the license plate of Stonick’s vehicle, later picked her out of a lineup.
She was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Wednesday, Oct. 26.
