UPDATE Gordon Getsinger, head coach of the girl’s team at the Saugatuck Rowing Club, today spotted a deer in the waters off Compo Beach in Westport and nudged the animal toward shore with his boat. Experts say deer are excellent swimmers and often take to water when frightened, seeking safety, or food on a nearby shore. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Mark Molesworth for WestportNow.com

The boater is Gordon Getsinger, head coach of the girl’s team at the Saugatuck Rowing Club (see westportnow on 10/18). He also coaches masters in the morning, which is when he saw the deer swimming away from shore and guided it back to the beach with the launch.
That is so cool! Good for him to help out the deer :)
