The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has revised its winter weather advisory for Westport and area to make it in effect until 6 p.m.
Snow will continue this morning and will be heavy at times during the morning commute, an advisory said. Snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected by the time the precipitation transitions to plain rain this evening.
As the low gets closer to the region, warm air aloft will move rapidly north and the snow will mix with and change over to freezing rain and sleet late this morning and into this afternoon.
Ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch are possible by this evening. Increasing east to southeast winds off the Atlantic will cause temperatures to rise above 32 degrees changing the precipitation over to plain rain by early this evening.
