The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. has issued a winter weather advisory for Westport and area for snow which is in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Snow will begin early Wednesday morning and continue through the day Wednesday, the advisory said. The snow will taper off late in the afternoon.
Winds will increase through the day and will result in blowing snow reducing visibilities and causing near whiteout conditions into the evening, the advisory said. Total snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches is expected with higher amounts over the higher terrain.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
