The Westport Historical Society (WHS) on Sunday, July 30 is hosting activities at Captain’s Cove Marina in Bridgeport, including a cruise along some of Black Rock Harbor’s historic sites.
The event sets off at 11:15 a.m. from 1 Bostwick Ave., an announcement said. Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. To register, visit www.westporthistory.org.
In the 18th century, Black Rock Harbor, now known as Captain’s Cove, was used as a trade port and shipbuilding center.
The WHS tour will begin with a visit to the Maritime Museum, a Queen Anne-style Victorian house built by coal dealer Richard Dundon in 1893.
On view are photos, models, and artifacts relating to Black Rock Harbor, Bridgeport Harbor, and the oyster industry in Connecticut, the announcement said.
From noon to 1 p.m., guests will hop on a 40-foot former U.S. Navy launch boat named “Chief” and tour the perimeter of the harbor to view all the historic sites, such as the lighthouse and old shipyards.
After the tour, guests can take a leisurely stroll along St. Mary’s By the Sea and meander through miniature shops offering a wide variety of gifts.
