First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff has announced that Westport will participate in the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day for Women on Friday, Feb. 5.
Joseloff will issue a proclamation at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall lobby.
Wear Red Day for Women is held annually on the first Friday of February as part of efforts by the American Heart Association to raise awareness that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 health threat facing women today.
“Residents are encouraged to wear red on Feb. 5 to show support for a change in awareness and proper treatment of heart disease in women,” said Joseloff.
As part of the awareness efforts, the Westport Weston Health District announce it will offer cholesterol and blood pressure screenings on Saturday, Feb. 20. and Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. - 10a.m. at the WWHD, 180 Bayberry Lane.
Screening includes blood pressure, total, LDL, and HDL cholesterol levels, triglycerides, and blood sugar. With this information, WWHD health professionals will help residetns develop a personal action plan to make heart-healthy choices.
Fasting for 12 hours is recommended. The cost for the screening is $25 payable by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa. Registration is required. Register at the WWHD Web site www.wwhd.org or call Monica Wheeler at (203)227-9571, ext. 242.
