Westport Opera Singer Helps Open Tennis Open

Westport’s Luicia Palmieri, a seasoned opera soprano, helped open the Tennis Channel’s coverage of the U.S. Open Saturday night. Along with baritone Frerdick Redd, she was recruited to sing excerpts from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Palmieri watched the segment at a Massachusetts bar where she was vacationing and posted a video of her reaction, surrounded by fellow patrons. She said in a Facebook post there was “lots of screaming when people realized I was sitting there. I ran out quick and jumped on a boat and sat under the fireworks.” YouTube.com video
