Westport Country Playhouse to Collect for Toys for Tots

Westport Country Playhouse will be a Toys for Tots collection site during its holiday production of Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield,” Dec. 1-17.

Theater-goers are invited to support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program by bringing new, unwrapped toys to the Playhouse drop-off box located in the lobby, and donors are entered in a drawing to win a gift with each donation.

Last year, U.S. Marines distributed 19 million new toys and brought the joy of Christmas and delivered a message of hope to over 7 million needy children throughout the nation.

Over the course of the 57-year history of the program, Marines have distributed over 332.5 million toys to 159 million needy children.

Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield” is directed by Anne Keefe and Joanne Woodward, Playhouse associate artistic director and artistic director, and is adapted by Giles Havergal, the Olivier and Drama Desk Award-winning director of “Travels with My Aunt.”

“David Copperfield” tells of the title character’s encounters with corrupt villains, devilish scoundrels, hilarious companions and trustworthy friends.

The performance schedule for “David Copperfield” is Tuesdays at 7 p.m.; Wednesdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; Thursdays at 8 p.m.; Fridays at 8:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 4 and 8:30 p.m.; Sundays at 3 and first week only at 7:30 p.m. During the third week of production, there is a student matinee for school groups on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Tickets for “David Copperfield” start at $35 each. Students and educators are eligible for 50 percent discounts. The play is recommended for children age 12 and up. Groups of 10 or more save up to 30 percent off the regular ticket price.
