Westport’s Compo Beach and Burying Hill Beach reopened to swimmers this afternoon after being shut down almost 48 hours because of an increased bacterial count.
Judy Nelson, director of the Westport-Westpon Health District, ordered the beaches closed to swimmers Tuesday following abnormally high bacterial counts found at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
The beaches reopened after a test of the waters Wednesday showed problems created by rains and a sewage spill at the Bridgeport wastewater treatment had abated.
